My nephew is 11 years old. When I call their house and he answers the phone, I always ask him what he is doing. He always replies, “Nothing.” I then ask, “Why aren’t you doing something?” He replies, “I am bored.” I wonder what it is like to be bored. Do you have that problem? If so, then let me tell you of some ministry opportunities going on both at church and in the community.
A couple of Monday evenings ago we had a good group of people gather to find out more information about the Snack Pack Ministry we are trying to start at the elementary school in the fall. It has been brought to our attention that there is a large number of children who are going through the weekend at home without proper nourishment. We have an opportunity to help with this need. Starting in the fall we will be getting food from the Food Bank in Fort Worth and packing it in backpacks for the children who are underprivileged to take home with them for the weekend. The packs will have food for breakfast, lunch and dinner for Saturday and Sunday for the children. This ministry will take a lot of people to run it, so if you are bored or at least looking for a place to serve, see Michelle Pannell about more details.
In the next few weeks you will be hearing information concerning G.R.O.W. Ministry Teams. This is an outreach/inreach program we will be starting as a church. We continue to see large numbers of guests in our Sunday worship services and it is vital we make them feel welcome when they visit, but we also must be diligent in following up with them after they come worship with us. There is also a great need for us to make sure we are letting our members know we miss them when they are not here. This program has a very simple way of doing both of these and will only require one night a month out of your busy schedule. There will be more information coming in the days ahead, but I wanted to let you start thinking about this ministry opportunity since perhaps some of you are bored!
Once again this fall we will be having our Grandview Back to School Fair. The date of the event is August 16th and it will be at the new city park. Last year we had a great turnout of both volunteers and people from the community. This year we have more time to plan and I believe the event will be even bigger and better! Mark your calendars now and be looking for more information in the days to come concerning planning meetings.
I know many of you are laughing as you are reading this thinking to yourself how you do not have one more minute in your busy schedules to do anything, but I hope you will find the time to continue to help grow the Kingdom of God through the ministries of First Baptist Grandview.
Thanks for being a church that is not BORED!
