HE IS RISEN!!!

Two years ago when Shelly and I had the privilege of traveling to the Holy Land, there were a few things that really stood out to me about the trip. The Sea of Galilee was absolutely amazing and to see the land forms around the body of water and hear the explanation of how storms form quickly has allowed the scripture to jump off the pages for me. The Garden of Gethsemane was perhaps the most emotional place we visited. I remember very clearly looking up the hill towards the city gates and gazing over my shoulder into the wilderness and realizing the sacrifice Jesus made. In the moment when the soldiers were coming to get Jesus all he had to do was take off the other way and they probably never would have found him. Then there was the Garden Tomb. I really was looking forward to the tomb before and during the trip, but I must admit it really was not impressive to me. The main reason is no one is really for sure that is the tomb where Jesus was laid. The significant part of the tomb for me was that it was empty. It really doesn’t matter if that is Jesus’ tomb or not. The important thing is that it was empty!!! HE IS RISEN!

As the calendar rolls over to Easter, we move on from the “L’s” vision series into Holy Week activities. I have been so encouraged by your response to LOVE, LEAD, LIBERATE, and LAUNCH. I hope you continue to pray about what part of the vision God would have you to invest in. Remember vision is “‘what is’ compared to ‘what could be’”. We must do what God called us to so that can be accomplished. We move on from the sermon series, but we must not move on from the vision and purpose to which God has called us.

Love: We are called to LOVE the unbeliever into the Kingdom of God by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ because God LOVED us first.

Liberate: We are called to LIBERATE the believer and unbeliever from worldly bondage by the power of the Word of God and with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Lead: We are called to LEAD the believer and unbeliever into a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ through training and discipleship of the truths found in God's Word.

Launch: We are called to LAUNCH discipled believers into the world to continue bringing the message of the Gospel to unbelievers.

I hope many of you have taken the 1:1:1 challenge. It is almost time to see what God will do with your efforts. Remember I challenged you to pray for 1 person, 1 time a day, at 1 pm and then invite them to Resurrection Sunday services! I can’t wait. How about you?

On that note let me remind you about the first two Sundays of April. April 1st is Palm Sunday. We will have lots of “new” things to enjoy that day as well as a great time of worship leading up to Easter Sunday. Then on the 8th we will celebrate the risen Savior on Easter morning. We will have the 8:30 worship, brunch at 9:00, Easter Egg Hunt at 10:00, followed by WORSHIP at 10:30!! NOTICE THE TIME CHANGE! In years past there was a lag between the brunch/Easter Egg hunt and the contemporary worship, so as a staff we decided to move worship up 30 minutes and also allow families to get out of church a bit earlier to enjoy the day together! Make sure to take full advantage of all the Holy Week activities as we celebrate the fact that HE IS RISEN!!!

Word of the Week

You probably are aware by now that I am not here this morning! I am in Collins, Missouri leading a revival this week. I ask that you be praying for the people of Collins, me and my family (they are home) that God will do some great things with His people in the days ahead.

Interestingly enough the “L” for this week is Launch. We are called to LAUNCH discipled believers into the world to continue bringing the message of the Gospel to unbelievers. I am proud of our church in this area. The Barefoot Disciples are regularly out doing ministry, on occasion Preston and I have the opportunity to speak, we have Mark and Lauren Ducommun preparing for the mission field, and others who have been “launched.” I know Preston will do a great job of concluding our “L’s” series this morning and I am sure you will be challenged and blessed!

I pray that your week is blessed!

Word of the Week

We continue in our journey of the “L’s.” So far we have looked at Love . . . we must LOVE others and LOVE God . . . and Liberate . . . we must LIBERATE the believer and unbeliever from worldly bondage by the power of the Word of God and with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Today we will take on the challenge to Lead. We are called to LEAD the believer and unbeliever into a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ through training and discipleship of the truths of God's Word.

I hope you are continuing to pray while asking and seeking God on what your part is in His vision for this church.

I hope you have a great week!

Word of the Week

I am so glad you are here for worship today! Today begins what I believe is going to be a great start to an incredible 6 week run in the life of FBC Grandview that will catapult us as a body into doing some incredible things as a church family to grow the kingdom of God!

For over a month now we have been promoting “L’s”… almost to the point of driving some of you crazy. Many of you have tried to guess what they are and others have just shrugged their shoulders and said “Preacher, you are nuts.” For the record, you were right! Well I am ready to unveil the first “L” word . . . Sorry, not yet! You have to hear the sermon!!

I hope you have a great week!

EXTRA! EXTRA!! READ ALL ABOUT IT!!

What a great month we have had in February. The spirit of the church has been fantastic and for that I say, “Praise the Lord!!!” God is doing some really great things in our midst and I count it a privilege to be a part of it! We began baptizing our new brothers and sisters in Christ from DiscipleNow weekend as well as began the process of discipling several of them. We have taken time to lay what I believe is a strong foundation for a new vision to be laid out for the coming years of First Baptist Grandview. We spent 3 weeks talking about what vision is by looking at Nehemiah and the call God had on his life to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. This past week Preston did a great job of laying out the need for prayer in the midst of vision casting as well as walking it all out physically. But I say the fun is just about to begin.

I know many of you have been wondering what all the “L’s” are about that have been posted around the church. In March you will find out! Each Sunday we will be unveiling a piece of the vision using one word and it will begin with “L!” As a staff we are all excited about where God is taking us as a church and the opportunities for ministry it is going to provide!

When FBC called me to be pastor almost 8 years ago (WOW, where has the time gone?), I felt a strong vision to reach out to young families, students, children, and to penetrate our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe we have done a good job of that, but I realize now the things we have done are simply a platform that will help us reach new heights as a body of believers! I hope you will make a commitment to be here each Sunday in March. I realize Spring Break is in the middle of March, but don’t let that be an excuse not to come, unless you are traveling out of town! The casting of a new vision only comes along so often. You don’t want to miss out, do you? How great will it be to look back ten years from now and say, “Yep, I was there when it all started!”

March 21st is going to be a fun night at FBC as well. We are going to be hosting the first ever “FBC LIVE!” What is “FBC LIVE!” you might ask? It is an opportunity to showcase your talent. Bill has written in greater detail about this event so make sure you turn the page and gather more information! This is a night you won’t want to miss!

Another couple of BIG dates to write down are the first two Sundays of April. April 1st is Palm Sunday. We will have lots of “new” things to enjoy that day as well as a great time of worship leading up to Easter Sunday. Then on the 8th we will celebrate the risen Savior on Easter morning. We will have the 8:30 worship, brunch and Easter egg hunt at 9:30 followed by WORSHIP at 10:30!! NOTICE THE TIME CHANGE! In years past there has been a lag between the brunch/Easter egg hunt and worship, so as a staff we decided to move worship up 30 minutes and also allow families to get out of church a bit earlier to enjoy the day together!

Extra, Extra . . . Great Things Ahead!!
